SIP Homes (Structural Insulated Panels)
Foam-core sandwich panels that are structure and insulation in one, a fast, super-efficient shell, with real cautions for the humid, termite-heavy tropics.

A SIP is a rigid foam core bonded between two structural boards (usually OSB), one panel that acts as wall, structure, and insulation all at once. Homes go up fast and are exceptionally airtight and energy-efficient. In the humid, termite-rich tropics, though, that OSB skin needs real respect.
What building them involves
Panels are made to size in a factory, delivered, and craned/assembled into walls and roofs, joined with splines. Because each panel is structure + insulation, the weather-tight shell can be up in days with a small crew. Superb thermal performance in temperate climates is the headline benefit.
The price
Roughly $1,300–2,200/m² ($120–200/sqft), a premium over stick-framing, partly offset by speed and lower energy bills. (Approximate; region-dependent.)

Does it suit a tropical build?
With caution. SIPs are a North-American energy-efficiency darling, but their wood/OSB skins are exactly what the tropics attack, humidity and termites. If a panel's skin is breached and moisture gets into the core, or termites reach the OSB, you have a hidden problem. It can be done with meticulous detailing, treated/alternative skins, and pest management, but for most tropical builds, an insulated concrete method (ICF) delivers similar comfort with far less moisture/termite risk.

For a hot, humid, termite-heavy climate, ICF is generally the safer choice: it delivers comparable insulation and comfort with a concrete core that resists moisture, termites, fire, and storms, whereas SIPs rely on a wood skin that the tropics can attack.
